In the short run, next 50 years, it cant possibly collapse. In the long run, it can be replaced by another world currency, in that case the printing machine will be stopped.
Right now, US can print money as much as they want, because they have a market for it. It serves as a reserve currency and the demand for the $ is consistent. Once US loses its power over other countries, $ wont get accepted, and the US wont be able to print money as they like to. But US cant lose its power because countries accept the dollar, so it is a vicious circle.
In the long run, however, if all things equal, China will replace USA as the dominant power. But that's not in our lifetime. Most probably at the end of the century. In that case, the vicious circle will be broken.

Right now, if the US goes into recession, it will bring the whole world into recession, hence the US wont lose power relatively since others will lose more power.
And there is no way $ can collapse, not even in the near future 20-50 years. If all things equal.
