Life beyond our Borders.

Everyone has begged the question at least once in their lives: Our we alone? Many, many people have tried to solve this question by every means possible, yet we still strive to believe we are not alone. I myself have a sort-of calculation to present, though, giving (What I believe) the most wanted and approximate answer I can provide. If we represent the number of "Habitable" planets in our Galaxy as X and the age of Habitable planets as Y, we can deduct that IFF the planet is old enough so as to match and/or equal the age of Earth, relative to when we, as Humans became a Tier 6 civilization (About 1750 AD), than a planet has much higher chances of containing organisms as advanced as we...right?

We also have to think about how these organisms could thrive. They could be Carbon-based, which we could possibly perceive much more clearly, but Intelligence can come in many forms- Right now, for example, you pen could be calling you a bitch using processes not yet known to exist ("I can be a Pencil too S-Senpai!"). So, in Earth's Bio-chemistry, we know most life is Carbon-Based, but does that pose that life could exist with just about any element? Probably not, but for the sake a clean equation, we'll take the number we got previously, and divide it by the number of known elements in the periodic table: 118. So, now life that we can touch and talk to is looking quite, quite slim. But don't give up hope! There's still that extremely small chance they could exist!

Oh wait...even if there was, they could be many, many light-years away. If you do not understand exactly what a light-year is- It's literally the distance light travels in a year. To put it into perspective, light, in only a second, can travel around the Earth at least 7 times (Thanks, VSauce). So, yes- Life like you and me could be out there, right now, but they're so far away that it doesn't help us whatsoever.

But wait! What if we DID invent a means of interstellar travel? Well, then we could obviously reach them, have a cup of tea, and then utterly obliterate their entire civilization, rape and enslave their entire species, steal all of their natural resources, and destroy everything they've ever known. Yes, sadly, that is an extremely plausible series of events, due to our specie's natural need to want what they don't have, and control those who oppose them. So, for the sake of other species in the Galaxy, we probably shouldn't contact them, or else we could end up killing them...or them killing us.

It is definitely possible that life is sustained elsewhere besides earth, but imo the chances of complex intelligent life is slim at best.

There are millions of stars, actually fuck knows how many of them are out there, each having its own system with planets etc. If it was possible in this solar system, what makes you think it wasn't possible anywhere else. It's very likely.

I was saying in our Galaxy, not the Universe. It is likely that there is more life as we know it in our Galaxy, but it could be non-perceivable at best. The chance to see other intelligent carbon-based lifeforms is even lower, but not so low that it's not possible. There IS life out there- there is no questioning it. The only question, is whether or not we can perceive and communicate with them on a level of civility and logic. Btw, link was amazing

Carbon-based is the most probable as it's the only element that allows for complex biochemistry. Silicon-based is another, less likely, possibility. The estimated number of planets orbiting stars has increased over the last few years. So with the likelihood of earth-like planets growing, I think there are greater chances that life is present elsewhere. The probability of intelligent life is a more difficult question IMO.
