At the moment, in every game, you can currently have an infinite amount of walls (theoretically, none has infinite units).
I think it would be interesting to see a new advanced game option where you can choose the amount of walls that each player can have, that way you need to choose more carefully what cities to protect etc.
The option would normally be set to infinite (like how it is right now), but you could also set it to other numbers.

Note that my definition of a wall is one line between two points (units). So if you can make 4 walls (option is set to 4) you can for example make 2 city/triangel walls.

This option might give a disadvantage to a player that owns many cities but if that is a problem you could always make the option give X walls per city you own / you need to have X cities to make one wall.

Paying for walls seems unfair and not logical. But I found the idea of changing the amount of possible walls on the map very good.

You know at first I thought that this would just be like when they nerfed Turnblocking and made it a primarily useless feature for many players, but you do have a point: Many of the current metagame exploits (I prefer calling them tactics, but whatever) are resultant from walling methods, and I've noticed you see the craziest types of walling methods (Serbwalling, RPwalling, Rewalling, Autowalling) in metas such as this due to the nature of highly-used strategies like IMP, PD, and INS.

Perhaps having a Wall stat cap could be something to think about in the future, though if we do this gameplay will become far more dynamic and aggressive. I could see Blitzkrieg being a big strategy again, despite the city defence nerf. Perhaps if this idea is implemented, a key aspect of Hold the Line (if it ever comes out...) could be having infinite walling again?
